With the mission to develop, encourage and cultivate young talent and young audiences, Jasmin Vardimon Company has formed JV2, delivering a Professional Development Certificate.  This year’s JV2, are an ensemble of 16 young, talented international dancers, hand-picked by Artistic Director Jasmin Vardimon.

JV2 2016 features Jasmin Vardimon’s work (in between) – first created for the National Youth Dance Company in 2013 and premiered at Sadlers Wells. Trapped in flux between the force of the group and the power of the individual, the work echoes relationships between humans and the natural environment.

AΦE present a work that questions the notion of presence and the realms of studio to performance and Vinicius Salles offers an inquiry of social judgments, acceptance of differences, and superficial assumptions of the “other”.

JV2 2016 features Jasmin Vardimon’s work (in between) – first created for the National Youth Dance Company in 2013 and premiered at Sadlers Wells. JV2 offers the opportunity not only to nurture young talented performers, but also young costume designers, photographers and lighting designers all collaborate on the production of the touring work. Relationships with Wimbledon College of Art, Ashford College and Rose Bruford College have been established to offer these placement opportunities over the course of 25 weeks to develop young artists and give them a platform to develop their work, supported in a professional environment. Young choreographers are also commissioned each year to create new work for the company which allows them creative freedom with a company of dancers, free rehearsal space for research and development, full production support, professional marketing, and a national platform through performances at small-mid scale venues in a Spring Tour.

Courage Commission, Ashford

The Company are delighted to be working again with People United, this time in Ashford on an exciting immersive art project, exploring the theme of courage.

Artist R.M. Sanchez-Camus (Marcelo) and composer Isa Suarez have been commissioned to deliver a site-specific live promenade piece performed by everyday people and local performers in August. The piece will tell stories of courage collected from people living in Ashford. Marcelo works in performance, street theatre and circus while Isa works in live music, film soundtracks and sound installations.

Marcelo and Isa will be running workshops and rehearsals at the Jasmin Vardimon Production Space. They are looking for enthusiastic young people who live in Ashford to take part, as well as local dancers, singers, poets, actors, musicians, choirs, props and costume makers, and a variety of street style performers who also live in the Ashford. If you don’t have experience in performance but are interested in being involved, please get in touch with sarah@peopleunited.org.uk as enthusiastic and adventurous minded people are definitely part of this and most welcome.

The street performance piece will tell stories of courage collected from people living or working in the Ashford district. Marcelo and Isa are looking for all kinds of stories about courage – from being brave and heroic to being authentic and honest when faced with challenging circumstances.

People United is a creative laboratory and pioneering charity. They are interested in the role the arts can play in growing a more kind and caring society. They develop innovative projects, undertake research and support new creative work. They are a catalyst for kindness. Jasmin Vardimon Company are really excited to be working with them in this way and developing a platform for other artists to create work in Ashford.  Do get in touch to find out how you can get involved!
