JASMIN VARDIMON COMPANY presents JV2 2016 National Tour
Choreographed & Directed by Jasmin Vardimon, AΦE and Vinicius Salles.
‘…there is such robustness, rigor and athleticism on show amongst these outstanding young performers.’ Graham Watts, 2015. DanceTabs.
Jasmin Vardimon Company’s professional development company, JV2 takes to the road this spring to present a programme of both new and established work that showcases the wealth of talent in the current company. With the mission to develop, encourage and cultivate young talent and young audiences, Jasmin Vardimon Company created JV2 as an educational initiative aimed at the recently qualified or those already working professionally in order to deliver a Professional Development Certificate. This year’s JV2, are an ensemble of 16 young, talented international dancers, hand-picked by Artistic Director Jasmin Vardimon.
JV2 2016 features Jasmin Vardimon’s work (in between) – first created for the National Youth Dance Company in 2013 and premiered at Sadlers Wells. Trapped in flux between the force of the group and the power of the individual, the work echoes relationships between humans and the natural environment.
AΦE, Ashford-based dance company founded in 2013 by Esteban Fourmi and Aoi Nakamura presents a work that questions the notion of presence and the realms of studio to performance and Vinicius Salles offers an inquiry of social judgments, acceptance of differences, and superficial assumptions of the “other”.
Jasmin Vardimon says: ‘Its a fantastic feeling to support young artists in their first steps in the professional world. I’m very proud of this company’s achievements and excited about the forthcoming tour.’
Now in its 4th year, JV2 has become a recognized training route for young performers from all over the world, and is just one of the training programmes offered by Jasmin Vardimon Educational Company; the charitable arm to the internationally acclaimed Jasmin Vardimon Company.
JV2 offers the opportunity not only to nurture young talented performers, but also young costume designers, photographers and lighting designers all collaborate on the production of the touring work. Relationships with Wimbledon College of Art, Ashford College and Rose Bruford College have been established to offer these placement opportunities over the course of 25 weeks to develop young artists and give them a platform to develop their work, supported in a professional environment. Young choreographers are also commissioned each year to create new work for the company which allows them creative freedom with a company of dancers, free rehearsal space for research and development, full production support, professional marketing, and a national platform through performances at small-mid scale venues in a Spring Tour.
