‘ALiCE’: national UK Tour and Sadler’s Wells run

This autumn, internationally acclaimed Jasmin Vardmon Company presents the world premiere of ALiCE, a bold reimagining of Lewis Carrol’s ground-breaking 1865 novel, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Created and choreographed by artistic director Jasmin Vardimon, with design by Guy Bar-Amotz, ALiCE promises a sensory feast of arresting images, powerful performers and striking kinetic scenery. The autumn tour will begin with the work premiering at The BOing Festival at The Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury on 27th and 28th August before taking to the road, and will culminate in its London premiere at Sadler’s Wells at the end of October.

ALiCE tells the story of a woman, or perhaps a child, unsure of her identity and where she is going, escaping or exploring as she discovers the powers within her changing body. The world around her is different, curious, and compelling – and at times absolutely bonkers.

Exploring the themes of time, identity, rules and authority, award-winning Jasmin Vardimon’s newest creation follows the worldwide success of her adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio which, for the past six years, has played to packed houses across the world.

Student From Kent Is Awarded Prestigious Dance Bursary

Kent-based aspiring professional performer, Ollie Marshall has been named the recipient of this year’s coveted JV2 bursary grant.

The bursary has been awarded in partnership with McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Ashford as part of its continued support of the local community and arts industry, which comes at a vital time as the performance sector continues to navigate this difficult period.

The £2,500 bursary will contribute to Ollie’s studies at Jasmin Vardimon Company which first joined forces with the Ashford Designer Outlet last year to launch a pop-up space in the Centre, providing a creative hub for dance and culture.

Jasmin Vardimon Company’s JV2 Professional Development Diploma is a highly esteemed programme for those who aspire to a career as a professional performer. The aim of the course is to develop students into versatile performers with skills in a range of performance disciplines, under the guidance of one of the world’s leading female choreographers.

Ollie Marshall, bursary recipient comments: “Receiving the McArthurGlen bursary has been an incredible opportunity for me, and I’m so grateful to receive it. Without this funding I would have to be working alongside my dancing training. It will help me focus toward my JV2 training and I wouldn’t be able to afford the full course without it. It has given me an extra step to fulfil my dream of working closely in the professional industry.”

Peter Corr, Centre Manager of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Ashford adds: “We have a long-standing relationship with Jasmin Vardimon Company and the bursary is something we are immensely proud to support.  Ollie is tremendously talented and we look forward to seeing him develop even further as he focuses on his training over the next year.”

Jasmin Vardimon, Artistic Director of Jasmin Vardimon Company comments: “We are grateful for the McArthurGlen support to one of our JV2 dancers, Ollie Marshall. This bursary will enable Ollie to complete the course and further develop his practice and skills. Every year the Jasmin Vardimon Company partners with other funding bodies and organisations to award bursaries that provide financial assistance to those in financial need who would otherwise not be able to pursue their artistic talent and training needed for their careers.”

The bursary follows the announcement that McArthurGlen Designer Outlets and Jasmin Vardimon Company are collaborating to bring contemporary dance to new audiences through a multi-sensory experience tour of Alice in Wonderland.  Starting its journey at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Ashford in Spring 2022, spending approximately 10days in Centre, with the ambition to bring performance art to new audiences and to enhance the guest experience.
