Honorary Ambassador of Ashford Award for Jasmin Vardimon MBE

Ashford Borough Council established an Honorary Ambassador of Ashford Award Scheme to recognise and honour individuals who have made or are making a significant contribution to the development, wellbeing, strength and/or civic dignity of the borough of Ashford.

This month the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr Larry Krause, had the pleasure of presenting two new recipients with this prestigious honour – Jasmin Vardimon MBE and Mr Doodle.

The award was presented to internationally known Jasmin Vardimon MBE who has a truly inspiring career covering world tours, multiple educational programmes, expert staff (on and off stage) and an MBE for services to the arts. This award acknowledges and celebrates how Jasmin Vardimon uses her talent and profile to locally, nationally and internationally attract world class artists to the borough. The award presentation took place in the new Jasmin Vardimon creative studio, which is already establishing itself as a flagship centre of dance in the UK.

The Mayor of Ashford, Cllr Larry Krause, said of Jasmin Vardimon: “Presenting this award to Jasmin Vardimon was a great honour, to celebrate her incredible talent, creative mind and ambition. Over the past 13 years Jasmin Vardimon has called Ashford home, she has been ensuring others get to explore and harness their own unique skills and to change the world in which they live, culturally, whether that be in a small or large way.”

Jasmin Vardimon was honoured in receiving this award and hopes to continue her involvement in developing the opportunities in Ashford. Jasmin said “Now that our home is built in Ashford, our commitment and dedication to our local community has grown deeper with an expanding range of opportunities to take part in, and I look forward to developing these further more in years to come”.

JV2 Tour 2022-2023

Talented, young international dancers from Jasmin Vardimon Company’s JV2 programme will premiere powerful new works by long-standing Jasmin Vardimon Company associates Vinicius Salles and André Rebelo. This brilliant dance ensemble, hand-picked by Jasmin Vardimon, showcases an exciting and energetic mix of inventive choreography and exceptional new talent.

Mystique

Choreographed by André Rebelo. A mysterious world merging fantasy and darkness. With a lucid dream like quality, there are elements of magic, illusion, shape shifting and special gifts. Experience a universe where multiple dimensions cross paths, interlacing a mixture of identities from many different origins.

It’s Not Unusual

Choreographed by Vinicius Salles. Who never went to a pub and caught yourself seeing Delilah being thrown table to table? Or saw a bunch of lads drunk on the street saying to a girl: she is a lady! Or couldn’t resist thinking about the music… it’s not unusual?! This show wants to investigate toxic masculinity and sexism by focusing on one of the most notorious symbols of British music, Tom Jones. We want to dive into his most popular tunes, to have a physical approach into the images of ‘man’ built in British culture in which his person embodied. And on that extend, to highlight how woman is represented in his lyrics to have a critical, ironic, sometimes funny, study of what is behind his most catchy tunes ingrained in every pier you ever ate a fish and chips, such as Delilah, She is a lady and It’s not Unusual.

‘ALiCE’: national UK Tour and Sadler’s Wells run

This autumn, internationally acclaimed Jasmin Vardmon Company presents the world premiere of ALiCE, a bold reimagining of Lewis Carrol’s ground-breaking 1865 novel, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Created and choreographed by artistic director Jasmin Vardimon, with design by Guy Bar-Amotz, ALiCE promises a sensory feast of arresting images, powerful performers and striking kinetic scenery. The autumn tour will begin with the work premiering at The BOing Festival at The Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury on 27th and 28th August before taking to the road, and will culminate in its London premiere at Sadler’s Wells at the end of October.

ALiCE tells the story of a woman, or perhaps a child, unsure of her identity and where she is going, escaping or exploring as she discovers the powers within her changing body. The world around her is different, curious, and compelling – and at times absolutely bonkers.

Exploring the themes of time, identity, rules and authority, award-winning Jasmin Vardimon’s newest creation follows the worldwide success of her adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio which, for the past six years, has played to packed houses across the world.
