In early 2020, ahead of opening our brand-new HOME, a building which would also provide activities and opportunities for the local community, we teamed up with McArthur Glen to open the Pop-Up Space, in the heart of the Ashford Designer Outlet. It offered, amid a retail environment, a venue where the public could consume an artistic experience. We offered a varied programme of classes and events, and visitors were invited to feedback and suggest what they personally would like to be on offer in our future building. The Pop-Up Space helped to raise the public profile of the company in and around Ashford, and provided a consultation period with the community, to help us realise what the new space could be providing for our local community. As the pandemic hit, we adapted what we offered, making it accessible online, and opened it to a much wider community and audience. In May 2021 when things opened up, we refocused on our relationship with the local community. Jasmin’s new work for JV2 was a site-specific creation, Canvas, an immersive performance located in two empty retail units. Visitors were invited to step in and consume the artistic experience, with all proceeds raised during the run being donated to the Friends of William Harvey Hospital and the RNLI charities.
