We are pleased to announce the launch of the new JV2 International Bursary!

The JV2 International Bursary is available for International students who have been selected and offered a place on the JV2: Professional Development Certificate Course. The bursary is awarded on the basis of talent in order to show our dedication and commitment to providing unique and high quality training opportunities to talented individuals from overseas.

Only individuals from outside of the UK and EU are eligible for this bursary in order to assist students with the much higher industry standard International Fees for Postgraduate Training. The Bursary will be equivalent to the difference between the UK and International Training Fee.

Please note there is a limit of one Bursary per year. Selection of students eligible for the Bursary will be determined on talent and financial need and will be awarded by Jasmin Vardimon.

PARK is an urban oasis, a place of refuge from ordinary life where eight characters play, fight, fall in love and learn to survive. In this playground of relationships, young lovers wrestle in a historic fountain, a graffiti artist  prays his story, a busker finds his only appreciative audience in a bag lady, and a flag-waving bully rants worn out political beliefs. Their stories intertwine creating a modern day fairytale that is alternately sharp, funny and cruel.

Jasmin says:
“We are delighted to present this updated and reworked production of Park. Surprisingly I find the themes explored and social comments even more relevant now than they were 10 years ago. Bullying, otherness, alienation, gender and homelessness are all explored in this island of urban lives.  It is exciting to revisit these concepts with the perspective of time and with a fresh and multitalented cast and we are happy to bring the work back to our repertoire following high demand for its return.”

Dover Arts Development (DAD) is looking for Fathers/Dads to participate in an introductory one-day workshop with musician Richard Bundy, and dancer Luke Burrough from the Jasmin Vardimon Company, both of whom are fathers of 3.
Richard and Luke will use movement and music to explore what it is to be a father. Not only the strength and importance of a man in a modern system and family but also his vulnerability and uncertainty resulting in an acknowledgement of the importance of the role of men as sensitive individuals.
The workshop is FREE and suitable for Fathers of all ages.
Please come in comfortable clothes.
LUNCH will be provided.

JV2 2014 are setting off on tour this spring with a new triple bill featuring two world premieres: Purgatory: Nothing 2 Say by David Lloyd and Vohlfs co-choreographed by Paul Blackman and Christine Gouzelis. The evening culminates with Tomorrow by award-winning choreographer Jasmin Vardimon.

Opening at Weymouth’s Bay Theatre on 19 March, JV2 2014 will tour to six venues nationwide, with two performances at The Place, London on 8 and 9 April.

In this triple bill for 2014, the world premiere of JVC dancer David Lloyd’s Purgatory: Nothing 2 Say follows a woman’s journey through purgatory; Vohlfs co-choreographed by former JVC dancers Paul Blackman and Christine Gouzelis takes an atmospheric view upon the order of a pack as they fight the uncontrollable nature to break free; and Jasmin Vardimon’s Tomorrow transforms selected moments from her repertoire of work into a new experience.

With the mission to develop, encourage and cultivate young talent, JVC formed JV2, giving unique opportunities to young dancers, choreographers and designers to create and tour new work. JV2 2014 presents eleven young international dancers hand-picked by Jasmin Vardimon including: Ema Jankovic, Eirini Apostolatou, Vivian Paraskevi-Sotiria Boutati, Jodie Fry, Roisin Laffan, Sabrina Gargano, Beate Auzina, Francesca Dillon- Reams, Melanie Muller, Emily Cobie and Valentine Yannopoulos. This triple bill also features up and coming young designers, with lighting by Rose Bruford college graduate Jessica Hung Han Yun and costumes by graduates from University of the Arts London: Maisie Todd, Katherine Garden, Xinyu Zhang and Rebecca Jempson.

Now in its second year, this new one-year professional development certificate course, provides participants the opportunity to train as versatile performers. Studying through the specific approach developed by Jasmin Vardimon, as well as experiencing multi disciplines with emphasis on movement, voice and drama, JV2 learn, rehearse and tour as a young company alongside the main company.

Jasmin joins Simone Scnall (Director of the Cambridge Embodied Cognition and Emotion Laboratory) for a People United’s Living Room event in Canterbury next month. The subject for discussion is: ‘Ways of Seeing – The Body As Metaphor’.

Together, Jasmin and Simone will consider the potential of dance to help us reflect on other perspectives and ways of seeing; a key ability in the development of prosocial attitudes and behaviours.

People United’s Living Rooms are interactive participatory events exploring arts, kindness and social change in an inquiring, informal and relaxed atmosphere.

Jasmin will be presenting a Performance Research Seminar at Brunel University tomorrow. The subject of her lecture will be: The importance of location and context in the works of Jasmin Vardimon.

Jasmin Vardimon Company is now entering Phase 2 of the INSPIRE project working with 100 young leaders and 20 teachers from 10 local Kent schools who joined together to celebrate and participate in a Big Arts Day, on site at the JVC Production Space on Friday 7 February.

Attended by The Mayor of Ashford, Councillor David Smith, the Big Arts Day presented performances by JV2 and workshop sessions run by Tim Casson and Luke Burrough assisted by the JV2 students.

Phase 3 of the project continues into March where JVC will revisit each of the 10 schools to deliver full day workshops.

Tickets for JV2 2014 are now on sale for the spring tour.

Opening at Weymouth College on Friday 14 March, JV2 will then tour to Edge Hill University in Ormskirk (25 Mar), Derby’s Deda Theatre (28 Mar), Canterbury’s Gulbenkian (4 April), culminating with two performances at The Place London (8-9 Apr). The London dates will go on sale in the New Year.

Now in its second year, JV2 is a new initiative for nurturing young talent and engaging with young audiences. Presenting a vibrant group of eleven international young dancers, hand-picked by Artistic Director Jasmin Vardimon and course leader Tim Casson, this triple bill promises a thrilling mix of inventive choreography and impressive talent.

Former JVC dancers Paul Blackman and Christine Gouzelis create beautifully intricate work with an alluring visual style. Current JVC dancer David Lloyd’s new piece delivers daring and highly physical choreography. Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells, Jasmin Vardimon revives her work Tomorrow, weaving together scenes from her celebrated repertoire, transforming favourite moments from Park, Justitia, 7734 and Yesterday into a new experience.

‘Leading Through Culture’ is part of the INSPIRE Schools Olympic Legacy Programme, funded by KCC and the Bridge Organisations Artswork and Royal Opera House Bridge.

Each of the 12 districts in Kent have been invited to work in partnership with leading Kent based organisations of which Jasmin Vardimon Company has been identified. Working with 10 schools Jasmin Vardimon Company will deliver a programme of workshops, planning sessions, a ‘Big Arts Day’ and final full day workshops in each of the schools.

With an aim to develop sustainable relationships between arts organisations and the schools to inspire excellence through arts led learning, Jasmin Vardimon Company will be working with up to 70 students and 2 teachers from each school leading to a total of 700 students and 20 teachers in Kent across the duration of the project.

Initially running from November 2013 to March 2014 the project is currently in its first stage with introductory workshops in each of the schools to identify student leaders all scheduled in the run up to Christmas.
