In conversation with Geoffrey Colman (Head of Acting at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama), acclaimed choreographer Jasmin Vardimon and Libby Worth, Senior Lecturer in Theatre Practice at The Royal Holloway University of London, discuss the work with author and subject. Together they share their insights into the pair’s collaboration and the complex writing process they undertook to bring the book to fruition. They also discuss Vardimon’s vibrant, evolving choreographic practice from the seeds of an idea through to the completion of a work. What emerges is a lively and multi-layered reflection on the devising and training processes of a choreographer in the midst of her practice.

A leading force in British dance theatre for nearly twenty years, Jasmin Vardimon has built a reputation for challenging, exciting and visually stunning dance. Formed in 1997, Jasmin Vardimon Company enjoys critical acclaim and sell-out performances all over the world.

Libby Worth is a movement practitioner and scholar with research interests in dance theatre, site specific performance and performer training.

In addition to his work at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Geoffrey Colman has worked alongside Vardimon as acting coach on her works Justitia, Park and Pinocchio.

This new book provides an excellent addition to the educational resources available from the company suitable for students, teachers and practitioners.

83% of all JV2 graduates currently employed in the sector!

Developing, encouraging and cultivating young talent is a key feature of JV2, the Professional Development Diploma training programme established by Jasmin Vardimon Educational Company in 2012. With its core focus to develop versatile and multidisciplinary performers, students on the programme work collectively as a company training alongside Jasmin Vardimon Company and its professional repertoire and creative methodology. The programme culminates annually in a national tour which features work by young choreographers and or associates of the company, as well as offers Creative Internships for young lighting design technicians and costumes designers to add production values to the touring work.

Over the last four years, 51 students, hand picked personally by Jasmin Vardimon, have successfully completed the programme and we are proud to report that 83% of them are currently employed in the sector. With 44% as professional performers, 25% as education facilitators, and 14% as choreographers, JV2 is indeed proving a successful pathway to employment.

JV2 2016 Tour Trailer

Choreographed & Directed by

Vinicius Salles

Visit our Facebook page to view the JV2 2016 trailer.

With the mission to develop, encourage and cultivate young talent and young audiences, Jasmin Vardimon Company has formed JV2, delivering a Professional Development Certificate.  This year’s JV2, are an ensemble of 16 young, talented international dancers, hand-picked by Artistic Director Jasmin Vardimon.

JV2 2016 features Jasmin Vardimon’s work (in between) – first created for the National Youth Dance Company in 2013 and premiered at Sadlers Wells. Trapped in flux between the force of the group and the power of the individual, the work echoes relationships between humans and the natural environment.

AΦE present a work that questions the notion of presence and the realms of studio to performance and Vinicius Salles offers an inquiry of social judgments, acceptance of differences, and superficial assumptions of the “other”.

“…there is such robustness, rigor and athleticism on show amongst these outstanding young performers that it would be hard to fit a cigarette paper between their strength, endurance and technique” DANCE TABS on JV2 2015
