The Annual exchange between New Adventures’ Cygnets and Jasmin Vardimon Company’s JVyoU youth company, brings young dancers and practitioners together at JV H.O.M.E. for a day of shared experience, creative exploration and exchange. The day provides a great opportunity for young people from different programmes to connect through their shared interest for dance in new ways, while experiencing new approaches to movement, choreography and creative practice. Led by practitioners from both companies, the exchange allows young dancers to explore musicality, repetition, individuality, improvisation and choreographic tasks of both companies.
The opportunity offers benefits that extend beyond developing just dance skills. Improvisation and creative exploration encourage young people to make split-second decisions, communicate through movement and develop confidence in their own artistic voice. These are great skills to develop as young dancers progress towards further training, auditions and professional creative environments. Just as importantly, sharing practice between the two companies allows both young people and practitioners to grow and discover different perspectives and approaches to contemporary dance.
The exchange reflects the importance of creating spaces where young dancers can learn with and from one another. The positive response from participants and practitioners demonstrates the value of continuing this relationship and creating further opportunities for Cygnet and JVyoU to share, collaborate and grow together.
